Here
are a few tips that will help you get the grant money you deserve.
Remember, persistence
is the key.
#1 - Government
grant "eligible applicants" are
classified as A, B, or C. Check the specific grant details
to see which classifications
are eligible to apply for that grant. A and B are reserved for
local governments, non-profit organizations, and other organized
entities.
Class C means that the grant is also available to private individuals.
No matter what you hear in TV advertisements - the Government
DOES NOT give away money just to get people out of debt. If you're
seeking
funds for personal needs you will be better served by searching
for grants from private foundations using the links provided
in the table
above.
#2 - While
any U.S. citizen 18 years or older is allowed to apply for any
grant, you can improve your
chances of winning
by applying
only for grants that you qualify for. In other words, if you're
an artist, it might be a waste of time for you to apply for
agriculture related grants.
#3 - Think
in broader terms to find grants you can apply for. You probably
will not find a grant
that is specific for "buying
new furniture" - "auto repair" - "remodeling
the bathroom." But keep in mind that most grants allow
for the payment of "administrative costs." In other
words, you will be allowed to pay yourself a "salary" while
carrying out the terms of the grant.
#4 - Some
grants and forms of assistance are simple to get, but getting
substantial
sized grants requires a committment
from
you. The key
is to follow through at all levels of the process, and
stay in touch with the grant administrators. The reason why so
much grant
money
goes un-awarded is that most grant seekers don't take the
time to follow through. And half-measures in any area of
life will
usually
get you nothing.
#5 - Also
remember, there is no limit to the number of grants you can apply
for. If you find several
grants that
interest
you, apply
for them all. This will greatly increase your chances
of getting cash that you never have to repay from the government
or from
private foundations.
#6 - Take
a business-like approach to your grants seeking efforts. Apply
for new grants on a frequent
basis and
keep good records
at each stage of the process. Winning cash grants is
similar to playing
a lottery - but with fantastically better odds and
much more control on your end. Still, even professional lottery
players
use business-like
tactics, record each transaction, and are consistent
with their efforts.
#7 - The single most powerful way
of increasing your chances of getting the money is to submit
professionally
formatted
correspondence to
grant adminstrators.
